Contains an autobiography of Randall's military experiences. Discusses his training and assignment to Europe. Describes combat and living conditions in Normandy, the Battle of Mortain, the liberation of Paris, on the Siegfried line, and in the Hurtgen Forest. Includes an account of Randall's heroic rescue of his company's scout during combat in the Hurtgen Forest, and the Bronze Star he was subsequently awarded. Recounts a wound suffered in combat, his stay in a Parisian hospital, and his discharge. Discusses the brutality of fighting in dense forested areas, the savagery of land mines, and his general feelings towards war. Includes Randall's discharge papers, letters to his wife, and a photocopy of the telegram notifying his wife that he had been injured.
